Cambodia: May 2013

"Reflecting back on Cambodia May 2013, the one thought that comes to mind is how GREAT God is!

This time last year, I was struggling to see light at the end of the difficult tunnel that was undergraduate medicine. The preparation for my finals was largely disturbed by an accident to my ankle, which required me to be in a cast for 6weeks. 

To think that a year on, I was in Cambodia, helping the needy as a qualified doctor is an emotional thought, to say the least!

I am honoured to have been part of such an amazing trip where, I believe, God's love was clear for all to see. So many people came to have their medical needs attended to but I believe many also had their spiritual and emotional needs addressed as well.
 
This was different to previous charity work I've been involved with because it had Christ as the central foundation.. And that gave me an incredible peace and satisfaction. 

Hebron International Hospital is a truly incredible place and I cannot speak highly enough of the work they are doing in Cambodia. It was a privilege to work with them and I look forward to, hopefully, further ventures!

The village clinics were my most enjoyable experience and I felt very comfortable in the surroundings. Despite the limited resources and volume of work - almost 600 patients in three days between 3 doctors. I felt that we did a lot of good out there. It was amazing to have had the opportunity to pray for each patient after seeing them. All the villagers were very grateful and very much appreciated our efforts, as a group, in lending them a helping hand. 

Daughters of Cambodia was another incredible organisation who have been working in difficult circumstances to give victims of human trafficking a way out. With Christ, once again, at the forefront, it was amazing to see all the smiling faces and joy from the changed lives. The dental hygiene workshop I helped run was a great way to interact with the workers, who were also very grateful for all the input. 

Despite being affected by stomach bug in the last few days, it could not tarnish the things I had seen, things I had done and amazing people I had met. 

A particular shout out to Jay and Alice for organising the trip and giving me the opportunity to work with them - I pray that they continue in their enthusiasm with this calling."

God is SO good, ALL the time!
