This week has been a wet week which might be due to the advent of the rainy season. For the last few days, it rained for several hours each day and now the waters have caused flooding in many of the Bileg compound.
The office is completely flooded as well as the kitchen. Areas such as the dog house and chicken farm are at risk as well. Some of the orphans rooms are also affected. The last time it flooded like this was in 2011.
The torrential rain could also have a negative impact on the growth of the paddy which is a major income for many families here. Too much water can kill the plants.
In addition, it means that many of the natural habitat will be out to play. In the one month I been here I seen scorpions, cockroach, fish, and freshwater crabs. I heard it's not uncommon to have snakes and lizards around as well.
But it is not all rain, on good days it can be extremely hot and humid. It's the type of weather in which it is best to stay inside with a cold drink.
I would also like to highlight another patient I seen this week. He came to the clinic with his wife and 2 young kids on his motorcycle. His initial complaint was back pain. But on examination, his had very low blood pressure and a high temperature. We were not clear on the source of infection and we monitored him overnight.
Unfortunately, the hospital is not yet ready for inpatient care and we referred him to the local hospital. We hope and pray that the hospital there will be adequately equipped for his needs.
I also have good news for the BLI team. The pigs we sponsored are doing well and have plenty of harvest. The idea was to donate 2 initial parent pigs to the farmer. The parents will have many offsprings. Bileg will take one back while the farmer may benefit from the rest. The pig that was reclaimed by Bileg may be eaten or given to other farmer families.
I witness how the pig was brought to the slaughter. It really brings the reality and pain of Jesus sacrifice a new meaning.
I think that should be enough for now.
Please pray for the following;
- For the reopening of the school, and for God to be glorified in their education
- for the orphans that they will have financial aid by next year
- For the hospital and the work that is still needed to be done there
- For that patient, that he is well.
- For the children, that they love God and value his word.
Til next time. 😄
