Michael and Chrissy arrival! Setting up the hospital system
I decided to include this update early as my time in Cambodia is drawing to a close. And all the more exciting to show the arrival of Michael and Chrissy.
I met Michael Wong a few years ago. I was staying with his younger brother Martin Wong, and I believe I recalled him staying over once. If I recall correctly, he was an IT expert in London, because taking a sabbatical. It was during his sabbatical, that I met him again on the medical mission trip to Cambodia. I believe we both been to BILEG Solid Rock together.
When I observed the needs of the hospital, I thought a hospital system would benefit it much. It was to my surprised that I was approached Michael over Facebook. Spurned by the same vision, we worked together over the Internet and phone to find the right software, plan a date to arrive, while raising funds for the system.
So after much planning, they finally arrived at Phnom Peth. Michael brought Chrissy, his girlfriend along. She is also not new to Cambodia, having been here several times before, focusing on the ministry for stopping sex trafficking. It seems she is well accustomed to Daughters of Cambodia, a ministry set up to provide a way out for girls caught in the deadly cycle of prostitution. It was a joy to meet her.
Given that they only have the weekend for this trip, we opt to stay in Phnom Peth, as to save time on travel and maximize time to introduce me and Milvert to the system.
Michael brought 3 laptops along, of which he already configured all of them. The software system we are using is Open Hospital, a free source software used initially in Africa hospitals. We studied how to back up the system, and to change the IP address etc. The idea is that if there is a malfunction anywhere, it is easy to fix.
We also enjoyed seeing the little riverside area near the Mekong river, as well as indulging in good food. On Sunday, I had a chance to visit, church of Christ peace, a Anglican based church. It was good to experience other churches in Phnom Peth. I also got time to complete some errands and spend some time with Milvert, whom I consider a kindred spirit.
Like a dream, they arrive and gone, leaving us with much blessing and thanks. We made our way back to BILEG, ready to continue on the good work.
Milvert got to work immediately on the next day. He and Raymond set up the important internet cables needed to connect the many computers together. I set off to start inputting data into the system and teaching the staff to use the system and back up. After that, we test the system. Michael was kindly contactable if we faced any difficulty.
There is still work to be done, like inputting the patient and pharmacy data. Installing a proper billing and pharmacy room.
But once again, we thank God for his grace, shown to us through the gifts of many who donated. I thank everyone in All Saints Church, MCCC, And CMC Ampang. I pray that I may share in the joy with you guys.
- Please pray for Dr Castro and family, for wisdom, strength and health. For unity, Love and a shared inheritance and vision through Christ who unites us all.
- Please pray for the upcoming medical mission by the Singapore team.
- Please pray for the continued implementation of the computer system
- Please pray for more staff to serve in BILEG, with a confidence from following him, to walk with faith and joy.
Until next update!
